to say that nolan's not the easiest person to get along with is an understatement. honestly, nolan's kind of a handful. he's the guy that likes messing with people on purpose. really, if he can do something and get a reaction out of somebody, then he's found his entertainment for a good few hours. he doesn't often think about how this could affect him or what kind of trouble he could get in, but hey, as long as he's entertained for a bit, he really doesn't care. however, he's not fully bad; sometimes whenever this happens, it's mostly because he really doesn't realize it. the boy has the horrible habit of saying out loud, what he should just say to himself. it comes out, he gets himself into a messy situation, such as a fight with someone, or the boyfriend of a girl, or whatever. especially when he's drunk; his judgement when he's drunk is... well, just shy of non existent. he's gotten into horrible situations in his life when he's intoxicated, some worse than the next. he'll tell you the stories. but really, it just goes to show that, he's never meant to go drinking alone, because honestly, if he did, he'd probably end up dead.
sarcasm is the boy's native language. he gets by on life by being sarcastic and flirty, thinking his good looks and the charm he has gets him out of trouble. he just counts on his luck for everything. he never tries to work at what he wants, or when he has to get out of something. he's always certain he can get out of sticky situations by using smooth words and his pretty face. in high school, that was what he had relied on to get him out of trouble for mouthing off to his chemistry teacher, or imitating the principal whenever he was lecturing nolan on making out with a girl against the lockers when he was supposed to be in class. facing consequences isn't his thing; for most of his life, he's managed to worm his way out of situations like that, and growing up, he's got it in his head that really, his looks and charm are probably going to be able to keep him out of trouble for the rest of his life.
though he seems like he's just another cocky musician who just thinks he's better than a majority of the people (though honestly, other than that last part, he really is), he has an incredibly sweet side. it's just been a while since he's had anyone to be sweet too. ever since high school, being nice to people has been on the bottom of his priority list. but really, it you catch him at a time where he just gets tired of being a jackass to every one, he's actually really sweet. he'll listen to your problems, offer some sort of solution though he probably won't give you the best solution ever, and he'll try and make you smile. it won't last for long really, but it's still a good attempt on his part. the band and the band's crew are probably the only people who've dealt with a sweet nolan. it's actually kind of a change from his regular personality, a very nice change. it's a sort of once in a blue moon sort of scenario.
the boy talks. a lot. he loves it. it comes hand in hand with the never knowing when to shut up thing really. he's a great conversationalist. though the conversations usually don't turn out friendly or anything, he can keep it going. his mind is constantly working, thinking of different topics that he could talk to someone with whenever he's faced in a conversation. if he's not in a legit conversation, he comes off as some jerk who thinks he's too good to talk with anyone. he's also the guy that will tell you to shut the fuck up if you catch him at a bad time (which, to be honest, is alot of the time). but. whenever he's with friends, he talks al ot. he'll talk about the randomest of topics until you get bored, he runs out of subjects, or he gets bored with you and decides to go off and pop open a beer and sit on the bus and relax for the rest of the day. honestly, if you can put up with the multiple personalities of this kid, then really, he'll like you.NOLAN'S HISTORY
well. the story on his parents isn't one that's going to get you going "awe", because really, it's a typical little love story. meeting in college, going out, dating, eventually getting married and having a kid. nolan was the first born, and only child between his parents. at a young age, they figured out that nolan was a handful to handle. he was the kid who would constantly be running around finding things to do; when he first learned to walk, they had to baby proof the stairs and everything because he figured out how to crawl out of his crib and just go wherever his little heart wanted to go. during his toddler years, well. he was the kid that all the parents were looking for just because he was already known to get into trouble, especially with getting hurt. he had run into things, tripped over stuff, gotten hurt by trying to be a cool kid who wanted to be like the older kids. he was a very vocal little kid, often complaining whenever he was bored or tired or angry or hurt. he never held anything back. he was a very honest little kid, truth be told. he was the probably one of those sons that a lot of mothers would have, because when his own mother asked him how she looked, he'd be honest with her if the dress made her look like "daddy threw up on her in the morning". he had quite a way with words growing up...
things kind of changed a bit during his earlier years. when he was seven, his dad started moving around a lot. he was one of those salesmen that had to go traveling around the country, really. and instead of taking the family along and moving around every couple months, nolan and his mom stayed behind while his dad took off. it was honest hard on them both, because dad had made the money. his mom had never worked during their marriage, so they had been entirely dependent on him. sure, he sent money back, but he had to save some up to be constantly traveling, plus food, places to stay, clothing, and the sorts. so, when he was in the second grade, his mom got a job at a local day care. sure, it wasn't the most glamourous or best well pairing job out there, but it was a job, and that was what she'd needed. nolan knew that his dad being away had to be hard; he personally didn't like coming home to neither of his parents being home, instead the old lady from next door who smelled like cat nip who tried to get him to knit with her.
joanna, his mom, ended up getting a better job as a secretary in a doctor's office. sure, she still wasn't around as much as nolan wanted (he was a selfish boy who just wanted his mom around more), but the pay was better. slowly, but surely, they were started to get used to his dad not being around as often as he was. stopping in for a couple weeks at a time before heading out again, nolan grew up just spending a lot of time around his mom and the neighbors. more often than not he'd find himself hanging out at the other guys' houses until late at night when his mom would come back, too exhausted to do anything but sit on the couch and watch a little television while she ate dinner before going to bed. it wasn't really the most wonderful lifestyle ever, but, really, nolan actually handled it well. in his mind, when dad came back, everything would be back to normal. he just wasn't sure when dad was coming back.
middle school was the time when nolan found out who he really was. developing his sarcastic nature and his wonderful ability to be completely honest with what was on his mind, he was actually a mysterious kid; other than whatever friends he had who lived near him and saw him enough to know that his dad wasn't around as often as he and his mother would like, no one really knew much about him. he was the kid who would just do the bare minimum to get by in class, bother people constantly just because he could, get in trouble and get phone calls home every other week, that sort of kid. he knew it probably didn't make it any easier on his mom, but it just seemed like that was how he liked spending school time. school just wasn't important to him. to him, it was a time to see his friends and relax, hang out, with an absolutely ridiculous amount of adults around to tell him what he can and couldn't do. he grew up a bit as the end of middle school came near, however; his dad was home for longer than a couple weeks, which had excited nolan to no end. it had also made him want to show his dad that he wasn't a complete dumbass who didn't know how to respect people, as that was what most people had probably thought of him.
high school. high school was honestly a time he'd rather never revisit. his father, who had been back to see nolan and his mom for about two months or so, ended up having to go out again to work, something nolan hadn't been keen on. he'd loved having his dad around, and the fact that his dad wasn't around for the start of his high school career kind of hurt. sure, he was used to it, but it didn't mean he had to like it. he just kept the fact that he'd back after a couple months in his mind, and really, that had been why, the first couple months, he was good in school. he didn't mouth off to teachers, bother the girls in the class, did his work whenever he had it (though it wasn't always good. he wasn't really too bright in school unless it was science class). he'd done it all just because he wanted his dad to be proud, to maybe want to stay to see nolan be better in school than he ever was. however, that never happened. couple weeks after christmas was when he'd gotten the call at school, telling him that his mom was taking him out of school early.
it had confused him completely, as his mother usually didn't do that at all, no matter how much nolan would beg and plead her. he'd known something had to be wrong though, if not for that, but the fact that she was completely silent on the way home. his mother probably was the only person who could talk more than him, and hearing her not say anything, well, it drove him insane. his mind didn't connect with anything negative; he thought maybe dad was home for maybe a couple days suddenly, and they were all spending quality family time, or grandma was moving in like she always said she would. hearing the story of how his dad wouldn't be coming back again, ever... it's not something fifteen year old nolan wanted to hear at all. he'd never know his dad was sick; he never seemed to show it whenever he was home. he'd acted completely the same, maybe a bit more exhausted than normal. nolan just hadn't ever really thought anything would happen like that to anyone, let alone his dad. cancer just, didn't exist in his mind. his dad was invincible. if he could go around for months traveling on his own without them, he could face anything, he always thought. it was just kind of a blow to him.
after the funeral, he was kind of ... well, plainly put, horrible. he did everything he used to do, maybe worse. talked back to everyone, got into fights in the middle of the school hall, made out with girls when he skipped class every other day. his mom was a frequent visitor to the principal's office, as well as nolan. they'd tried countless things to try and get the kid on track; talking to the school psychologist, guidance counselors, his mom taking him to a therapist to maybe relieve him of whatever he was holding back. for two years, nothing helped. he wouldn't talk about his dad. he'd talk back, he'd throw sarcastic, rude comments at everyone who tried to help, he'd walk out of every single appointment. nothing really work, until maybe his senior year, three years or so after his dad died. his grandparents, who had started helping pay for nolan and his mom's various bills, had started living with them. and around christmastime with the grandparents and his mom, and no dad, had sort of been the breaking point. the kid had never cried, not even during his father's actual funeral. he'd never said a word about his dad dying to anyone, honestly; other than the school staff and his family, no one else knew nolan's father had passed away; to anyone else that nolan talked to, his father was still off, traveling the country working, and he'd been home in a "couple months". and the fact that no one ever said anything about the fact that they never saw him around, the fact that no one seeme dot pick up how easily nolan was lying abou this dad still being alive, was probably the driving force in his ultimate freak out. the ultimate him walking out of his house and going to the graveyard where his dad was, and sitting here for hours into the night, until he stumbled home at four in the morning, red eyed and completely silent for once in his life.
life after high school kind of calmed down. he didn't go to college like his mother would've hoped; he got a job at FYE in the mall, he just hung around town hanging out with old friends. his attitude hadn't really gone away, but he wasn't a completely hardass like he'd tried to be in high school. forming autumn calling with a couple friends months after graduating high school probably had helped him the most. these people were probably the only ones that knew how to put up with the kid, who could throw back what he dished out at them. when natalie, their drummer, had joined the band last, they'd never realized that their little garage band could ever be anything more than that, a garage band. honestly, looking back right now, he wouldn't have expected to be on a world tour with seven other bands at all, at any point in his lifetime. when he'd picked up playing the guitar when he was eleven out of sheer boredom, he'd never thought the countless hours spent up in his room, teaching himself how to play notes and chords would ever be put to any use other than sitting in a dirty garage playing crappy covers of third eye blind and blink 182 covers.hai, i'm rini, check out gavin's app for this stuff~
